clockwise or counterclockwise

Im trying to figure it out. do thermals turn clockwise or counter clockwise or both. I know or atleast if heard a tornado turns clockwise. Unless its up north of the continet then it turns counter clockwise, so why is that? Also my thoughts are wind direction. Here in Idaho it always comes from the west. But it does change direction from time to time. East wind is rare but that whould seem to change the direction of a thermal if anything whould
