RC glider and sailplane

So I've been flying my E-BoT and a Parkzone Radian and I now wanna get a pure, unlimited class glider. I'm on a tight budget though, $400 or under for the airframe. I'd also like an ARF if possible. RES or full house. Any suggestions?

I was thinking to either post something on RCG and here to see if anyone wants to sell something used. Otherwise, the Art Hobby 3.1 High Aspect or the JK Thermic looked reasonable. They don't have much of a chord though and the wing area on the High Aspect is only around 800 sq. in. . Has anyone flown these planes?

Should try used not abused Saffire or Falcon 880

WANTED: I'm looking for a full-house (Or RES, but full house preferred), ARF or RTF sailplane. Unlimited class. Something that can take a moderate launch on the winch would be great.

Thanks,
Andy

From what I read the Art Hobby planes fly very well, and are nicely made. I don't know much about the Thermic.

The wing may be only 830 Sq In, but the plane only weighs 30 ounces empty. Add 3 oz of servos, 4 oz battery, 1 oz receiver, and maybe 3 oz of wire. If you come up at 50 ounces all up, that is still about 8.6 oz/sqft. That is in the right range. My Thermal Dancer is 3.1M 980 Sq 59 ounces and in and 8.7 oz/sq ft. My 3.4M Supra is 8.8.

So it is right in the right range for a good flying 3M plane. When you build it see if you can put in some sort of accomodation for ballast. My Supra has a ballast tube. The TD does not. I managed to rig up a method for putting in ballast but it is kinda klugy. But it makes a huge difference in windy and turbulant air.

I would expect you would not have a problem on the winch as long as you don't stand on the pedal.

What radio will you be using?

Welcome to the fun and challenge of pure soaring.

Ed, your thread was the first place I looked.

Screw the Hi Aspect! I got a Topaz M in great condition with servos for 350! I'll let you know when I finally do fly it. It's really similar to the AVA, 44oz. all up, and it's full house.

The search is over.
