East Coast Pilots - time to start planning your contest schedule!
Happy new year everyone!
Now that the new year is here, I am going to start to plan my contest schedule so I can reserve time on the calendar and avoid date conflicts with my wife. Maybe you plan your contests on shorter notice but that doesn't work for me. I need to get them into the calendar or other things will take over the dates.
Here is the current schedule of Eastern Soaring League Contests. Each date represents a weekend. Typically each weekend is two contests. You can fly Saturday, Sunday or both.

The clubs that host the contests can be found here so you can see locations. They span from MA to VA.

Contests marked TD are winch launched unlimited sailplane thermal duration contests. Planes of all constructions, all sizes and all control surfaces are welcome. We have pilots flying Easy Gliders to Xplorers and Gentle Ladies to Giants. All are welcome. And, if you are not comfortable launching with a winch, not to worry, we will gladly help you launch your plane.
Contests marked DLG are hand launched contests. We generally follow F3K type rules for hand launch. While virtually everyone flies DLG type planes, you can certainly fly any kind of hand launched, HL, glider that fits within the rules. One year I flew a side arm launched foam wing called a Boomer. So most hand launched gliders up to 1.5M (60") or smaller, should work. Check with the CD if you have a question. You will see XP-5s and DL-50s. Some fly R/E and some fly flapperons. Everyone has fun.
Each contest, whether TD or DLG is broken into Expert and Sportsman pilots. We also have a Novice program for those who are new to contest flying or new to the ESL. At most contests, Novices fly free.

For those who are interested in participating in the season long points accumulation, we have a 17 weekends, 34 contests scheduled. Your season standing is based on your top 6 TD contest scores or your top 5 DLG contest scores. So you don't have to attend all the contests to be in the running for the season lead.
