about me
I moved from Florida to Boulder Colorado for health reasons in '07 and fixed up my old S1-26 DAW handlaunch glider. I'm having lots of fun learning to fly again after many years without... I run an Internet company so I can take a break to fly when conditions are right.

I'm looking forward to getting to know glider people in Boulder and building more advanced gliders. I enjoy building these social networking websites in my job and thought it would be fun to put this one together.

Currently building FSD's Kaze after converting my kid's Flying Eagle as a warm up.

how long have you been flying and what types of gliders?
Until recently, I had only flown two channel gliders and have relatively little experience interspersed over a period of 28 years. Started out with a one channel balsa rudder-only model before getting a robbe two channel which did not work out very well - too heavy and cumbersome. It wasn't until I built the D.A.W. Schweizer 1-26 HLG Foamie Trainer that I really started to learn and have fun.

I built the TG-3 about 11 years ago when Dave was still manufacturing them... flew it a little bit in Kentucky on a small dam and then moved to Guatemala where I found some great hills and had my first real big lift soaring.

Moved to Florida and flew it on an old garbage dump park hill a few times and then it sat unused for years. I just repaired it and have had a blast slope soaring it around Boulder.
your first glider? your favorite? building now or next?
Love my D.A.W. Schweizer TG-3 Foamie - and putting together an electric easyglider now, my first four axis plane. Now building the FSD Kaze.
what clubs or groups do you belong to?

hi Eric: I learned to fly by finding a slope, after many missed missed landing i finally got over the aileron reversal when the airplane is coming at you. i think i have more than 100 hours slope flying near great falls.my latest airplane for the slope is a chinese built f3b glider, with a very strong wing and a high wing loading to boot. it can be thermalled , but you need strong lift , i would like to try some dynamic soaring with it i am sure it 120mph capable if i can find a good site

I read your post about that and followed the link to his web site. I am going through a huge move myself. So I completely understand his desire to follow his heart.

yes it is - the batteries that were in it finally degraded to the point that the receiver ( a home built 29 MHz radio system) just wiggled back and forth. My best friend has it now - kinda on loan and he has reconditioned it and he says I will probably get it back one day.
I will post some pics soon

'Sorry t' hear your health slows you down. The sim has (I think) taught me t' fly.
I was given a trainer outfit by a buddy and that's what I'll fly 1st, t' see if th' sim really DID teach me. :o)
Keep pluggin',

Thanks!

It's not too flat here. It's just that all the hills are covered with things haha.

I've got a few small areas to slope, but nothing too great.

yesterday,

I had to go to barbeque so I went out really early. I visited the onen slope on 93 , wind was right but not that much... I then went to power lines and meanwhile the wind there switched to NW and then to E. finally I went ncar it was a NE wind. SO: travel, hiking time: 1:30 h, flying time possibly close to 2 minutes...

Hi Eric,'
I was born in Italy, in a small town between rome and Florence, called Perugia. That mountain in the background is called Monte Vettore, is pretty well known in Italy by both slopers and ds slopers.
I will certainly post pcitures of my fleet.

By the way I live in CU family housing (south of Arapahoe and 20th street)

Once in a lifetime

Really every flight is once-in-a-lifetime because each is different and if you fly often a lot of weird things happen - but this was eye-popping.

When Randy Carr (fatlion.com) told me that the DAW S-126 is one of his all-time favorites, I decided to restore my S-126. Here's what Randy actually said:
BTW, my poly-S1-26 is quite maneuverable. I do rolls (without any assistance

SuperFly

This is my SuperFly by SuperFlyRC - I picked this up to teach my six and eight year old girls to fly. Maidened it yesterday and it's a real hoot! Easy to build, easy and fun to fly.

first rolls!

I flew my easyglider for over an hour today overlooking Wonderland Lake in great slermal conditions, about 45° out and sunny. I flew from a spot somewhat protected from the wind and it was unusual to be soaring but only feeling the lightest breeze on my face. Nice spot for winter flying.

Finally got the nerve up to try a roll - and it worked out! Could have done it long ago but was hoping to get the realflight simulator and do it on the computer first. With the recession getting worse, I gave u… Continue

New knobs or gimbals

last time I went flying I lost a knob from my radio so looked around for a replacement and came up with this interesting large gimbal.

Just ordered it and thinking it might be good for kids and flying in the winter with gloves...
